A room full of boys
Fifth grade boys
Who missed their recess so I could teach them to love writing
Snarky comments
Teasing
Rolled eyes
Met with firm,
loving
consistency
And crystal clear expectations
High
expectations
Grins begin to settle into listening
Listening turns to concentration
Concentration to focus
Focus to goal setting
Goal setting to
goal meeting
Confidence
Praise
High fives
It was a good day
with
that room full of boys
Fifth grade boys
Who missed their recess
To love writing with me for a little while.
Thanks for sharing the change of focus! Glad it was a good day!

I love how your poem progresses from rowdiness to focus. And ends in love 🙂

What a great snapshot of a moment. To me, it spells RELATIONSHIPS from the beginning to the end.

Yes! Fist bumps all around! This is a great slice capturing a special moment when everyone wins…teacher, fifth graders, all us fellow slicers who get to read about this day!

Huge kudos to you for helping them turn things around, to move from losing recess into enjoying writing. I have no idea how you pulled that off with fifth grade boys! Fabulous!
