Tomorrow I will not go to my children’s awards assemblies at school. They are both winning academic awards and neither my husband nor I can make it there. We have the kinds of jobs that make it hard to miss work without a lot of advanced notice.
Mommy guilt is a terrible thing. But today, I am choosing not guilty.
I am choosing not guilty because even though I work a lot, I love them, hug them, snuggle with them, feed them, and read to them every single day. And that’s enough.
I am choosing not guilty because I am pretty sure there is not a doubt in their minds that their daddy and I value their education. And that’s enough.
I am choosing not guilty because I tell them and show them how proud I am of them as often as I can. And that’s enough.
I am choosing not guilty because they have a great set of grandparents who will be the faces in the crowd for them tomorrow, taking pictures and being there to cheer for them. And that’s enough.
I am choosing not guilty because no matter what I do or even if I didn’t work, there would be times I couldn’t be there. But they know that even if I can’t be there, I am always there for them. And that is enough. I think I can even say that is more than enough.
I am choosing not guilty tomorrow.

I definitely think you should choose not guilty! Your kids definitely sound really loved! And they are lucky enough to have grandparents there besides! Lots of the kids at my school don’t have anyone, ever!

Isn’t parent guilt the worst!? You’ve made a wise decision. And I hope you can truly feel NOT guilty – in fact, feel GOOD because you are making a beautiful life for them. They know they have people in their lives who care deeply for them and are there for them. The saddest part if YOU have to miss seeing their sweet little faces. I hope Gramma and Grampa take a lot of photos and videos so you can enjoy watching – and knowing that you’re working hard so they can have the best life can offer them. xoxox

I got lots of lovely pictures and even made it through most of the day without guilt…! And we celebrated with hugs and ice cream after school!

I am sure that your children definitely know how much you love them and want to be there. Thank goodness for grandparents that can attend and take photos.
